HAZARD FILMS TOP TEN: "CHRISTMAS MOVIES"


Every year Hollywood studios shell out some good and not-so-good family Christmas movies. Today's Weekly Top 10 List involves me naming some of the best Christmas Screenplays EVER that you can download for your own reading pleasure.


Here now are Ten Christmas movie screenplays you might enjoy.

(To be clear this is NOT a best films list, this is a list of screenplays that I believe screenwriters may want to consider reading for inspiration or as examples of well-written holiday films)


10. "THE HOLIDAY" (2006)

Written by Nancy Meyers

Two women troubled with guy-problems swap homes in each other's countries, where they each meet a local guy and fall in love.

9. "LOVE ACTUALLY" (2003)

Written by Richard Curtis

Follows the lives of eight very different couples in dealing with their love lives in various loosely interrelated tales all set during a frantic month before Christmas in London, England.

8. "HOME ALONE" (1990)

Written by John Hughes

An eight-year-old troublemaker, mistakenly left home alone, must defend his home against a pair of burglars on Christmas eve.

4. "A CHRISTMAS STORY" (1983)

Written by Jean Shepherd, Leigh Brown, and Bob Clark

In the 1940s, a young boy named Ralphie Parker attempts to convince his parents, teacher, and Santa Claus that a Red Ryder Range 200 Shot BB gun really is the perfect Christmas gift.

Written by Valentine Davies

After a divorced New York mother hires a nice old man to play Santa Claus at Macy's, she is startled by his claim to be the genuine article. When his sanity is questioned, a lawyer defends him in court by arguing that he's not mistaken.

2. "A CHRISTMAS CAROL (1951)"

Ebenezer Scrooge, a curmudgeonly, miserly businessman, has no time for sentimentality and largely views Christmas as a waste of time. However, this Christmas Eve he will be visited by three spirits who will show him the errors of his ways.

An angel is sent from Heaven to help a desperately frustrated businessman by showing him what life would have been like if he had never existed.
